Meet Amy, the Owner of NW GLW

Like many of you, I’ve had my fair share of terrible spray tan experiences. My most unforgettable one? The morning of my grandmother’s funeral. I was giving the eulogy and thought a little bit of color might boost my confidence to speak in front of everyone. What a mistake! I ended up bright orange. I had no idea I was supposed to let it process, and it turned into an absolute disaster—one I can laugh about now, but at the time, it was anything but funny.

That experience sparked something in me. I knew there had to be a better way. As a natural redhead, I needed something that worked with my skin tone, not against it. I started researching, experimenting, and testing every spray tan I could get my hands on. Along the way, I met an incredible woman in Bellingham who took me under her wing. She saw my eye for detail and told me I had a real talent for this. She encouraged me to start spray tanning as a side hustle—and I did just that.

For six years, I spray tanned out of my home, and with every tan, I fell more in love with the process and the joy it brought to my clients. Then… a puppy happened.

While working full-time in the beauty industry and tanning nights and weekends, I decided to take time off in December (our slow season) to bring home a Labradoodle puppy named Griff—who you’ll still meet at the studio today! We were inseparable. But when January rolled around and I went back to work, neither of us was ready. Separation anxiety hit us both hard.

As fate would have it, a friend had just opened a doggy daycare in Tacoma and—right next door—there was a small studio space available. I had never dreamed my side hustle could turn into a storefront, but after chatting with the amazing landlords, NW GLW was born.

I’ve now been in the sunless tanning industry for over 15 years and have poured my heart into mastering the craft. I’m proud to have been named:
