Spray Tan FAQ’s
+ How should I prepare for my tan?
We recommend moisturizing both internally and externally the week leading up to your spray tan.
- Complete all waxing or sugaring at least 48 hours prior.
- Exfoliate properly! Use a non-oil-based scrub (we love our Get Ready to GLW soaps and scrubs).
- Shave 24 hours prior using a fresh razor (avoid those heavy moisturizing strips).
- Schedule nail appointments 24 hours prior to your tan.
- Stop using salicylic acid and retinols one week prior.
- Arrive with no oils, perfumes, or deodorant on your skin. (Don’t worry—we provide makeup wipes if needed!)
+ What should I wear during my airbrush tan?
- Women can wear as little or as much as they like—disposable G-strings are provided.
- Men are required by state regulations to wear boxers or briefs.
- Please note: If you choose to wear your own undergarments, NW GLW is not responsible for any spray tan stains.
+ I have very fair skin, will a spray tan still look natural?
YES! This is my specialty as a natural, freckly redhead. I customize the solution and DHA level to complement your skin tone, giving you the most natural glow possible.
+ How long will my tan last?
Tan longevity varies, but with good care, expect 7–14 days. * Moisturize daily! Hydration is key. * Keep skincare simple—frequent exfoliating, scrubbing, or shaving will fade your tan faster. * Avoid heavy oils (like coconut or baby oil) and non-organic aerosol sunscreens. * We recommend our custom products from The Bubblery to maintain your glow!
+ Why does my face tan fade faster?
Your face is exposed to daily cleansing, toning, and product use. Plus, sweating breaks down the tan faster. Keep your facial routine gentle to extend your glow!
+ Will a spray tan protect me from the sun?
Unfortunately, no. We wish it did! Always wear SPF. We recommend Coola, SunBum, Elta MD, or Supergoop to protect your skin and your tan.
+ Will dry skin affect my airbrush tan?
Yes! Dry skin can cause uneven fading (hello, giraffe patches—though we do love giraffes!). * Moisturize before and especially after your tan. * Apply lotion right after you pat dry from your shower—don’t wait! * Our NW GLW Body Butters are perfect for keeping your skin hydrated.
+ Is sunless tanning safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
We spray many glowing mamas-to-be! However, we always recommend checking with your doctor first.
+ Can I get a spray tan if I’m sunburned or peeling?
No. A spray tan won’t hide sunburn or peeling—actually, it’ll make it worse. Even if your skin looks healed, a recent sunburn can cause uneven, darker patches once the tan develops. Trust us, it’s not cute.
+ What should I use to maintain my spray tan?
We exclusively carry custom, spray-tan-safe products from The Bubblery to help maintain your glow! Check out: * Glw on the Go * Tan Me BB * GLW Mousse All designed to extend your tan or refresh it when you need a quick boost.
+ What do I need to do for my first shower?
First off—no judgment! But here’s our important ask: * Do not pee in the shower with bronzer still on your skin (it can streak!). * Use warm water only for your first rinse. * Rinse thoroughly with your hands—get into all the nooks and crannies until the water runs clear. * Skip soap at first. Soap + bronzer = streaks. * After rinsing, you can use your hands (no washcloths or loofahs!) with gentle soap. * Pat dry—don’t rub. * Then, moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
+ 'm getting married! When should I tan, and what should I know?
Congratulations!! We love being part of your wedding glow! * Be mindful of what you wear leading up to your big day to avoid tan lines. * While we’re amazing at blending, some things (like tan lines) are tough to fully correct. * We recommend a trial spray tan at least 4 weeks before your wedding day. * Our tans last beautifully, and this ensures your skin is a clean canvas for your final, perfect glow.
+ Why does your product have bronzer in it?
Great question! The bronzer helps your technician see where they’ve applied the solution to ensure an even application. While it may appear dark during processing, it’s not the final result. The bronzer will rinse off in your first shower, revealing a natural, gorgeous glow underneath!
